There are several factors that need to be taken into account in choosing a proper mattress for an adult. One of the above is whether the mattress is hard, soft, extra hard or extra plush.

Sleep experts affirm that in order to avoid insomnia, as well as to enhance the quality of sleep, people who sleep on their backs should pick an extra firm mattress, while those who sleep on their side are better off picking a semi hard mattress, on the stomach sleepers are likely to sleep better on a soft but firm mattress. These matters are important and any serious mattress salesman should discretely inquire about these intimate and private matters.

However, once a mattress no longer feels supportive and has lost its original shape or when its springs are being felt through the layer of fabric, then it's time to wave the mattress goodbye. The average mattress, if kept in good condition, aired every so often and switched from back to front, should last around 10 years.
