Bed mattresses : The historical evolution of the King size mattress

A King mattress measures approximately 76 X 80 inches (193 X 203 centimeters), its total surface is big enough for the cohabitation, relaxation and sleep of two adult people. Its proportions are intended to provide enough space to allow for sufficient moving and tossing during sleep, without knocking someone over.

But as we evolve as a civilization that is forever seeking more grandiose projects, the King Mattress is progressively being outmoded by the Super king mattress and by the Grand king mattress. The author of these lines can almost foresee the upcoming appearance of the Emperor mattress, a three by three meter version of the ultimate bed, manufactured with an array of gigantic ad hoc sheets and pillows.

So if you feel that lying on your King mattress feels somewhat stifling and you are dreaming of space and freedom perhaps it is time to look into the larger and more comfortable models. There is nothing wrong with progress and while the king mattress shrinks or is, more precisely, outgrown, king mattress manufacturers are making money by adding a few inches to the magnificent king mattresses and adding to their power.

It is possible that the soon to emerge Emperor mattress outmode the former kings models with its unprecedented power and size. Mind you, the Emperor mattress is not meant to fit the contours of emperor Napoleon, because that emperor would have fit in a crib mattress, but the future emperors of the world, the six foot six and above, the well fed and pampered big guys of the Western world, the men and women of our future developed civilization will certainly be targeted clients.
