Bed mattresses : Tips for Cleaning Your Futon Mattress

Now that you are considering the purchase of a futon mattress, you must be wondering how to clean it. It would be practical to purchase a waterproof or at least a water resistant cover for your futon mattress. In the east, people clean the cotton fibers once or twice a year. In places where there is sunshine, the futons will be airing in the yard, on clotheslines, across bamboo chairs weekly or monthly.

Some people air their futons every day. Aside from standard care, turning at least once every two months, one suggestion is to vacuum your futon mattress when you vacuum your rugs. You can air the futon during the time you remove the cover for washing. Place the mattress either on a wooden chair in a room where the doors open, or on a lawn chair and have someone help you lift and turn the futon which might be too heavy for you to carry.

Some futons might weigh as much as 80 pounds and a king size futon mattress could weigh more than that. It will be almost impossible and not very sensible to try to air the larger sized futon mattress that are frequently made of polyester and inner springs out to your back yard to get some fresh air . Two large persons could carry the board that the futon mattress is on outside on a beautiful day and also flip it over to be vacuumed either inside the home or outside.
