E-Zine Thursday, August 13, 2009Qatar bourse defends 7,000 pointsAfter yesterday's retreat in line with weak global stock markets, the Qatar Exchange closed at 7,045.36 points (up 1,23%) on very low trading volumes. Transport company Nakilat added 1.19%, closing at QR25.40 on high trading volumes. Qatar Shipping (QShip), on the other hand, retreated 2.41% in value after reporting a net income of QR80.9m for the second quarter. Although 4% higher than in the previous quarter it was below EFG Hermes' forecast of QR148.4m. For the first time since it listed on July 22, telecom services operator Vodafone Qatar ended below QR10 (down 0.5% at QR9.90). AME Thursday, August 13, 2009Abu Dhabi exchange adds 1.63%The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) General Index joined the general rebound at GCC exchanges and added 1.63%, closing at 2,867.16 points. UAE oil bellwether Abu Dhabi National Energy (Taqa) advanced by 6.83% to Dhs1.75, despite reporting 79% year-on-year decline in net profits (of Dhs136m) for the second quarter 2009. On a year-to-date basis, Taqa shares gained 57.65%. United Arab Bank posted the biggest profit today, closing 8.16% at Dhs6.10. Islamic insurance operator Abu Dhabi National Takaful dipped 10% lower, ending at Dhs4.41. For the week, the ADX advanced slightly by 0.31%. [AMEInfo.com]
