Polanski Considered Flight Risk, To Be Kept in Jail
Roman Polanski has encountered another glitch that will delay his extradition to the United States. According to the Associated Press, the Federal Criminal Court in Switzerland ordered that the director remain detained in prison. The court said, "The court considered the risk that Roman Polanski might flee if released from custody as high. The bail offered by the appellant does not meet in its form the requirements set out by the law," according to the AP. This is not the end of the road for Polanski. He has the opportunity to appeal to Switzerland's highest tribunal and can continue efforts to influence the Swiss Justice Ministry to approve his release. Washington has until late November to submit a formal extradition request, after which additional court proceedings will most likely take place.
