The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) launches its Global Year Against cancer Pain today. Scheduled through mid-October 2009, the campaign will draw attention to pain and suffering experienced by people with cancer. More than 10 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer each year, and their pain is a serious concern.

Chronic diseases such as diabetes and arthritis may render more than 660,000 older Australians unable to work, a retrospective analysis has found, prompting calls for the government to address workers' health concerns if it wants to boost the workforce.
