Switzerland has sent its first satellite into space
(Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) The first Swiss satellite in history -- extremely small and 100 percent student designed and built -- has been successfully launched from the Sriharikota space station in India. Constructed by the EPFL -- with many institutional partners -- the SwissCube has gone into orbit today. An educational project -- those who worked on it adhered to extremely precise requirements for space travel.

ALMA telescope takes another step forwards -- and upwards
(ESO) The ALMA astronomical observatory has taken another step forward. One of its state-of-the-art antennas was carried for the first time to the 5,000 m plateau of Chajnantor, in the Chilean Andes, on the back of a custom-built giant transporter. The antenna, which weighs about 100 tons and has a diameter of 12 m, was transported up, where the extremely dry and rarefied air is ideal for ALMA's observations of the universe.

57 college presidents declare support for public access to publicly funded research in the US
(SPARC) The presidents of 57 liberal arts colleges in the US, representing 22 states, have declared their support for the Federal Research Public Access Act in an open letter released today. The letter is the first from higher education administrators to be issued in support of the 2009 bill, and further reinforcement that support for the Act exists at the highest levels of the higher education community.

Feedzilla is a news aggregator which categorizes news stories by topic. It is a platform where webmasters and bloggers can find an unmatched selection of easy to use, automatically updating and professional news widgets for their sites.
