Climate scientists are losing a satellite that helped show how global warming affects the earth's polar ice caps. The satellite had found glaciers are losing mass, which ends up as water in the ocean, causing sea level to rise. Measurements from a DC-8 aircraft will help scientists figure out whether that process is accelerating.

Typhoon Mirinae already raining on the Philippines
(NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center) Infrared imagery from NASA's Aqua satellite revealed that Typhoon Mirinae's cold thunderstorm clouds were already over sections of the central and northern Philippines on Oct. 30 at 4:53 p.m. (Asia/Manila) local time. Mirinae is also known as "Santi" in the Philippines.
