Cable Subscribers Increase Before Digital Transition
Comcast Corporation, the nation's largest cable service provider, announced Wednesday that earnings were up. The company says it lost some basic cable subscribers, but that the decline was more than made-up for by new digital subscribers. One non-profit group is urging Congress to investigate whether Comcast and other cable companies are trying to profit from the upcoming transition from analog broadcast TV to digital.

Kia sponsors Environmental Media Award
The National Arab Company-KIA Motors Jordan has announced that it will sponsor the Jordan Environmental Media Award, in cooperation with the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature. The operators of the three-year-old news operation are counting on interest in Chicago's 77 neighborhoods to bring readers to their nonprofit site, staffed almost entirely with citizen journalists. The results so far are inconclusive. Traffic is building, but only recently passed the 25,000 mark on monthly unique visitors. (The Chicago Tribune's monthly audience is about 150 times larger.) A
