So far unscathed by plummeting oil prices, costly deep-water drilling projects in the Gulf of Mexico could soon become less attractive if crude prices continue falling, as they did again Tuesday.

Oerlikon Solar announced the availability of its next generation technology, Amorph High Performance. With more than 500,000 panels already produced from the previous Amorph Basic technology, Oerlikon Solar said that it has now made a major leap forward in panel performance.

BioSolar Inc., a company that produces bio-based materials from plant sources that for use in solar photovoltaic (PV) cells, announced that the company expects to begin commercial production of its BioBacksheet over the next few months, and is gearing up for pre-production runs.

Xantrex technology Inc., a subsidiary of Schneider Electric, announces it was awarded contracts from enXco Inc., an EDF Energies Nouvelles Company, valued at approximately US$1.5 million. Under the contracts, Xantrex will supply commercial three-phase solar inverters for two large-scale projects in California and New Jersey.

The U.S. economy has entered an extremely worrying recession. It appears to some as the first stage of a devastating depression. Ocean Power Technologies has installed one of its PowerBuoy wave power generation units near the Kaneohe Bay off the island of Oahu, Hawaii. This is the third PowerBuoy to be deployed by the company over the past two months at sites in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
