Australian IT Friday, August 21, 2009Telecom NZ's FY profit slumps 32%(Telecompaper) Telecom New Zealand saw its profit's sink by 32 percent in the financial year ended 30 June. EBITDA dropped 6.5 percent year-on-year, in line with guidance, to NZD 1.77 billion from NZD 1.89 billion in the prior year. Revenues totalled NZD 5.59 billion, down 2 percent from NZD 5.67 billion. The decline in revenue was primarily driven by declines in retail and the Australian unit AAPT, which were offset by growth in wholesale and international segments. Telecom's net earnings were down 32 percent to NZD 483 million, through a combination of a 20 percent increase in depreciation and amortisation costs, and a 32 percent increase in net finance expenses. These increases were partially offset by a 37 percent decrease in adjusted income tax expense. Telecom ended the financial year with 165,000 customers for its XT-branded WCDMA network, which showed positive early average usage trends, such as a 20 percent increase in voice traffic, and a 300 percent increase in data download
