Silicon Friday, September 11, 2009Verizon protests Nortel unit sale to Avaya(Telecompaper) Verizon Communications told a court that the sale of Nortel Networks' enterprise business to Avaya jeopardizes critical US law enforcement, anti-terrorism and national defense interests, because Avaya has said it will not take on Verizon support contracts, the Wall Street Journal reported. A Delaware judge scheduled an emergency hearing earlier this week to hear Verizon's concerns about Avaya, which is expected to make the opening offer on Nortel's enterprise unit at an auction on 11 September as one of two potential bidders. Verizon said that if Avaya wins the auction, Verizon and its US military, law enforcement, government, banking, business and hospital customers could be left without communications

Docomo is offering EUR 6.35 cash per share for Net Mobile, which represents a 53.9 percent premium over the three-month average weighted share price prior to the announcement and a 34.2 percent premium over the closing price on 10 September. The tender offer will be launched by the end of September by NTT Docomo's wholly-owned German subsidiary Docomo Deutschland and includes an acceptance period of four weeks. The supervisory and
management boards of Net Mobile have generally expressed their support for the tender offer, and Docomo has already agreed with certain shareholders holding 24 percent of Netmobile that they will tender their shares in the acceptance period. The service, which will start in January 2010, will be offered to households, small and medium enterprises as well as schools. With capacity coming from SES World Skies' NSS-12 satellite, Intersat Africa will use the platform to introduce interactive satellite-based broadband services to the African
market. Astra2Connect will be sold in ten countries in East and Central Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Somalia, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Newtec, a manufacturer of satellite equipment and a long-term partner for Astra2Connect, will supply Intersat Africa with the respective satellite broadband user terminals based on the Sat3Play
