Service Tester checks E1 lines.Designed for installation, acceptance, and maintenance testing of digital transmission
systems, model 2120 performs channel testing, alarm analysis, fault detection, and signal analysis of E1 (2 Mb/sec) lines. Product monitors any voice channel at receiving terminal, measures signal voltage and frequency at same time, and displays status of transmission circuit. Test Manager
software suite allows for analysis of tests and measurements, as well as result archiving and printout. This story is related to the following:Computer Hardware and PeripheralsTest and Measuring InstrumentsSearch for suppliers of:

Thomasnet Monday, September 21, 2009RAID's Days May Be Numberedstoragedude sends in an article claiming that RAID is nearing the end of the line because of soaring rebuild times and the growing risk of data loss. "The concept of parity-based RAID (levels 3, 5 and 6) is now pretty old in technological terms, and the
technology's limitations will become pretty clear in the not-too-distant future — and are probably obvious to some users already. In my opinion, RAID-6 is a reliability Band Aid for RAID-5, and going from one parity drive to two is simply delaying the inevitable. The bottom line is this: Disk density has increased far more than performance and hard error rates haven't changed much, creating much greater RAID rebuild times and a much higher risk of data loss. In short, it's a scenario that will eventually require a solution, if not a whole new way of storing and protecting data."Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Wugnet Monday, September 21, 2009MIT's Hybrid Microchip To Overcome Silicon Size Barrierschliz writes "MIT researchers have successfully embedded a gallium nitride layer onto silicon to create a hybrid microchip. The method could be further developed to combine other technologies such as spintronics and optoelectronics on a silicon chip. It is expected to be commercialized in a couple of years, and allow manufacturers to keep up with Moore's Law despite today's shrinking devices."Read more of this story at Slashdot.
