After twice extending the deadline for exclusive negotiations, the two companies announced that they were unable to agree a transaction "within the economic, legal and regulatory framework within which both companies operate". As a result, they mutually agreed to end the discssion. The companies started talks in May on a cross-shareholding agreement that could have eventually lead to a full merger and created a mobile operator with over 200 million susbcribers. Bharti said it will continue to look for international expansion opportunities.
