Australian IT Thursday, October 22, 2009Thailand's 3G licences starting at THB 4.6 bln(Telecompaper) Thailand's National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has officially announced the starting bid price for the upcoming 3G licences, The Nation
reports. The regulator set the price for the 15 MHz block of 2.1 GHz spectrum at THB 5.2 billion, and for the three 10 MHz blocks at THB 4.6 billion. Earlier, the NTC said it was considering prices ranging from between THB 3 and 5 billion. Chief executives of private operators AIS and TrueMove said the prices were within an acceptable range, but TrueMove CEO Supachai Chearavanont did point out the price was relatively high compared to neighbouring countries. Following criticism of the NTC's auction plans, it is likely that the 3G licence auction will be held early next year, rather than in December as planned previously. NTC chairman Choochart Promprasit told the Bangkok Post that the hearing on the 3G licence auction has been pushed back from 5 November to 12 November.
