Gawker Media is under the gun and firing 19 people. In an e-mail to staffers, Gawker CEO Nick Denton said that in anticipation of a coming ad slump, he is firing 19 of the company's 133 editorial staff, ...

Weekend blog special edition: The Palin-Biden debate: Few gaffes, fake smiles and fighting for the 'change' mantle
Sarah Palin and Joe Biden together proved one thing - that modern-day television debates are less debates in the classical sense than like watching rival infomercials attempt to occupy the same space on the small screen and destroy each other. Ahead of

A response to Ismail Lagardien?s ''We do not have to apologise for not speaking 'proper English' ''
I loved Ismail Lagardien?s article which was inspired by my innocuous ? or so I thought ? comment on another blog. I thought it was a compliment that he took to task my remark on using correct English. I laughed at the nickname he gave me in the

Gawker Media Layoffs 19, Suspends Pageview Bonuses Temporarily
Nick Denton's successful blog network is getting ready for harder times. 19 of the 133 employers is being laid off, while another 10 is hired to strengthen the successful sites like Gawker, Kotaku, Gizmodo and Lifehacker. He's also temporarily suspending the pageview bonus system, which have already seen some slashing, for the first quarter next year, while hinting that it might be out of the loop longer in his memo. It's not all bad news for Gawker Media bloggers, though, since the base pay amount will be raised for the ones not getting sacked. Denton blames the recession. But now the credit crisis is clearly going to affect every sector of the economy. Advertising buys typically plunge after the Christmas shopping season, and 2009 is obviously going to be exceptionally difficult. We have to prepare for the worst, now, rather than when the worst comes upon us. This comes shortly after the news that b5media is revamping its pay model. There is no doubt that blog networks are facing ro

Huffington Posts New Technorati Top 100 Leader
Arianna Huffington's The Huffington Post is the new #1 spot on Technorati Top 100 blogs list, overtaking previous frontrunner Michael Arrington's TechCrunch. I'm not sure if this really means anything, but TechCrunch have been controlling the Technorati Top 100 list for some time now. Other than that, here's the top 10: The Huffington Post TechCrunch Gizmodo Engadget Boing Boing Lifehacker Ars Technica Official Google Blog Daily Kos TravelPod Do you care about the Technorati Top 100 list at all? Cindy McCain Gets Hijacked on Twitter
Better keep an eye out for who's using your name on all those social sites, public persons! FaceReviews writes that Cindy McCain has been hijacked on Twitter, and you can (still) see for yourself. Hijacking isn't brands isn't uncommon online, the classic hijack being registering a domain name, and then sell it back. Nabbing a user on Twitter and pretending to be someone you're not is, however, pretty easy to battle, so I'd expect this fake Cindy McCain to disappear soon enough. That is, if it is fake.
