Automattic Nabs PollDaddy, Releases WordPress Plugin
The latest item on Automattic's shopping list is PollDaddy, the hosted poll solution that apparently have served 195 million votes over some 1 million polls to date. The two man operation have joined Automattic, and PollDaddy polls are now hosted in the new owner's powerful datacenter. Good for the stability of the service.
Matt Mullenweg explains why Automattic acquired PollDaddy:
As we started to look at building out our own service for this, it became more obvious that, while on the surface it's a very simple problem, there's a lot of hidden complexity and opportunities for some really powerful features under the hood. There are probably a dozen companies addressing this space right now, but as we started to survey the space I was struck by how often I'd see this "PollDaddy" thing pop up.
PollDaddy is now a part of the WordPress.com service, detailed here, and also available in a plugin for hosted WordPress installs. That adds to the current support of embedding polls, something tha

Aloha! I'm heading to Hawaii for the official Hawaii Geek Week October 18-25, 2008. Want to join me?
Actually, it all started with the wonderful coincidence of having two packed weekends of web and blog tech conferences, Mactoberfest with the Hawaii Macintosh and Apple Users Society (HMAUS) on Saturday, October 18, 2008, and the week ending with Podcamp and WordCamp Hawaii on October 24-25, 2008. With so much web tech goodness, more workshops and events were thrown into the calendar.
The Hawaii Macintosh and Apple Users Society (HMAUS) and their Secretary and Ambassador Eugene Villaluz decided to approach the governor of Hawaii to declare Hawaii Geek Week.
The long week of events around Hawaii Geek Week brings together island experts with mainland and international experts in blogging, web technology, photography, video, podcasting, social media, and more. Here are a few highlights:

A show of hands of how many of you regularly podcast as part of your blog empire.
My hand is raised, and has been since April 2005. Though recently, given my hectic workload, the success of the blog and the sick amount of time it takes to put together audio programming, I've been slacking in the podcast department. Not only have I been unable to produce a show in several months, I haven't even looked into traffic.
At the request of a potential advertiser, I took a peak at recent traffic. Much to my surprise, shows that are YEARS OLD still receive thousands of downloads. Huh!?
I understand that many episodes of the Working Podcast have been picked up by search engines, etc. - but I didn't expect to see this type of growth from a 'dormant' product.
Particularly shocking was the volume of downloads Show #1 still receives. Ironically, it's probably the worst of the 80 programs I have done. At least I like to think the show has evolved. But here's my question for you audiofiles.
