Verizon completes LTE data call trials in Boston, Seattle(Telecompaper) Verizon
wireless has completed its LTE data call trials in Boston and Seattle based on the 3GPP Release 8 standard. The data calls involved streaming video, file uploads and downloads, and web browsing. Verizon has made data calls using VoIP to enable voice transmissions over the LTE
network. In collaboration with its
network infrastructure providers, Verizon's completion of the data calls over its 700 MHz spectrum in Boston and Seattle marks the next step in its deployment for building the 4G wireless
network, which is being built on the 3GPP Release 8 standard. In both locations, the data calls were executed on commercial infrastructure platforms. The technology partners helping to enable data calls in these initial markets include Alcatel-Lucent (Boston) and Ericsson (Seattle) for base station/radio access network, LG and Samsung for trial devices, and Starent Networks and Nokia Siemens Networks for network equipment. telecommunications operator Oi reported a second-quarter net loss of BRL 146 million, compared to a profit of BRL 288 million in the same period last year. The change was due to higher financing, depreciation and amortisation costs, mainly related to the Brasil
telecom merger. Net revenues dipped to BRL 7.30 billion, compared to a pro forma BRL 7.48 billion a year earlier, and EBITDA fell to BRL 2.32 billion, from BRL 2.44 billion, due to costs for the expansion in the Sao Paolo area. The
company ended June with 59.8 million revenue-generating units, 3.7 percent higher than March and up 17.6 percent from a year ago. The growth came mainly from the
mobile telephony base, which added 2.097 million users in the quarter for a total 33.9 million
customers at end-June. Over the past 12 months, the mobile base was up 34 percent. The number of fixed broadband customers also increased, by 3.2 percent from March and by 15.7 percent from a year earlier, to a total 4.066 m
