ZDNet UK Friday, September 11, 2009SES expands Astra2Connect to African market(Telecompaper) SES is expanding the reach of its satellite-based broadband service Astra2Connect to Africa through an agreement with Intersat Africa, a provider of satellite-based internet services on the continent. The service, which will start in January 2010, will be offered to households, small and medium enterprises as well as schools. With capacity coming from SES World Skies' NSS-12 satellite, Intersat Africa will use the platform to introduce interactive satellite-based broadband services to the African market. Astra2Connect will be sold in ten countries in East and Central Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Somalia, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Newtec, a manufacturer of satellite equipment and a long-term partner for Astra2Connect, will supply Intersat Africa with the respective satellite broadband user terminals based on the Sat3Play technology. mobile operator NTT Docomo has agreed a takeover bid for
germany-based mobile content distributor Net
mobile. Docomo is offering EUR 6.35 cash per share for Net
mobile, which represents a 53.9 percent premium over the three-month average weighted share price prior to the announcement and a 34.2 percent premium over the closing price on 10 September. The tender offer will be launched by the end of September by NTT Docomo's wholly-owned German subsidiary Docomo Deutschland and includes an acceptance period of four weeks. The supervisory and
management boards of Net Mobile have generally expressed their
support for the tender offer, and Docomo has already agreed with certain shareholders holding 24 percent of Netmobile that they will tender their shares in the acceptance period.
