Softbank's profit growth boosted by mobile unit
(Telecompaper) Japanese communications provider Softbank saw its net income grow more than 70 percent as sales were boosted by the mobile unit. Net sales for the six months to September totalled JPY 1.35 billion, an increase of 1.5 percent from JPY 1.33 billion in the year-ago period. The growth was primarily due to sales growth at the mobile unit, which recorded subscriber growth and handset sales growth. Net sales at the e-commerce segment as well as the broadband segment were down. Operating income was JPY 230.62 billion, up 28.1 percent year-on-year. Net income grew 72.1 percent year-on-year to JPY 70.75 billion from JPY 41.12 billion a year earlier. For the full financial year ending 31 March 2010, Softbank forecasts operating income of JPY 420 billion.
