prnewswire.com Friday, October 02, 2009Emmy Fashion, 2009: Sparkle, Grecian and RedGood, old-fashioned glamour made a return to the Emmys red carpet in the form of bright red (always good for awards shows), beaded everything and Grecian draping. My favorite looks for the night were "Gossip Girl" Blake Lively in a cut-to-there red Versace and Jennifer Carpenter (frankly, I've never seen her show "Dexter" but it's fashion we're talking about, not acting) in a stunning nude and black beaded one-shoulder gown. Try some suede (as on Carine Roitfeld who is my style idol), a shorter jacket or a cross-body bag. All of these ideas taken from the Spring 2010 Fashion Week shows work well now for cooler weather and then you'll see lots of these ideas again in stores next season. focusonstyle.com Friday, October 02, 2009The New Ann TaylorWhen I hear the name Ann Taylor my first thought is business casual clothing that my older sister (if I had one) might wear - but the company is re-branding and moving in a younger, fresher direction. I had the chance to go to the Ann Taylor fashion show not too long ago, and not only were nearly all the heavy hitters in the magazine world there (Glenda Bailey from Harper's Bazaar, Linda Wells from Allure and Elle's Joe Zee, to name a few), but young 'n fabulous stars like Amanda Bynes, Joy Bryant and Katharine McPhee also made an appearance. What about the clothes? Well, they're definitely more fun, while still keeping their respectability. There were a couple of minidresses that I could see a starlet pulling off, like the $240 Silk Tiered Strapless Dress in aubergine. Let's see if Ms Bynes hits a red carpet in the frock sometime soon... Photo © Stephanie Prommer licensed to About, Inc.
About Friday, October 02, 2009Versatile Chic: The Never-Ending Cocktail DressHow many dresses do you own that you can wear more than 100 different ways? I am totally intrigued by this Hayley Starr dress they call "The Fancy." It comes in a reversible fabric -- one side matte, the other shiny --and can be tied more than 100 ways according to a company rep. The dress comes in 5 colors (I love this violet), costs $280 and is a one-size-fits all that can be adjusted to even work as a maternity dress. (Photo Credit: Hayley Starr)
