Fiery Davis named 49ers captainTight end Vernon Davis has been selected as one of the San Francisco 49ers captains, coming a long way since being kicked off the field by Mike Singletary with more than 10 minutes remaining against Seattle last October for behavior the coach didn't like. In fact, the excitable Davis has come a long way just since training camp. A regular fighter during his first three NFL seasons, he scuffled with linebacker Marques Harris during a practice early last month and everybody paid. As in all the Niners running enough "gassers," 12 sprints across the width of the field, to make one pass out as Davis so put it. Davis insisted it wasn't a fight, rather just an act of being competitive.
