IGN Entertainment Saturday, August 01, 2009Braid could be set for PS3German ratings board lets slip release? Jonathon Blow's seminal Braid platformer, already a hit on the Xbox Live Arcade as well as PC platforms like Steam, could be on the way to the PlayStation 3 sometime soon.Word on the new downloadable release was revealed accidentally by the German ratings board, the USK, who list the title as a PS3 debutant on their website. This is the first we've heard of a port over to Sony's box, but it would make a lot of sense given the title's success elsewhere.Hothead Games are reported to be behind the translation, although this remains very much a rumour until we get official word. No release date was mooted.

Ferrago Saturday, August 01, 2009PSN tops 11 million users?More facts and figures from SonyAccording to the latest number crunching from Sony's first-quarter earnings report (ouch),
nearly half of the people who have purchased a PS3 are now signed up as members of the PlayStation Network."I
think it's running on track, and we are expecting really great things this year from it," financial officer chap Robert Wiesenthal was quoted by Kotaku as revealing.Sony have sold about 23 million PS3 systems to-date, putting the PSN user figure in the region of 11 million. The console maker measures sign-ups in terms of individual account numbers, rather than the subscriber figures often quoted by Microsoft, leading some to question what the true number of PS3s online is. Ferrago Saturday, August 01, 2009Games Fail To Portray Gender and Ethnic Diversityeldavojohn writes "A new study has found that game characters tend not to reflect cultural diversity. According to the paper from researchers across four universities (PDF): 'A large-scale content analysis of characters in
video games was employed to answer questions about their representations of gender, race and age in comparison to the US population. The sample included 150 games from a year across nine platforms, with the results weighted according to game sales. ... The results show a systematic over-representation of males, white and adults and a systematic under-representation of females, Hispanics, Native Americans, children and the elderly.' The researchers also note that games 'function as crucial gatekeepers for interest in science, technology, engineering and math,' and that without these groups represented properly, 'it may place underrepresented groups behind the curve.'"Read more of this story at Slashdot.
