MTV claim victory with The Beatles
Take that GH5, says music giant The latest NPD sales figures are only just with us and already the bickering is starting, MTV talking up the success of The Beatles: Rock Band over rival music release Guitar Hero 5."We outsold them two-to-one on a revenue basis and we outperformed on a unit basis as well, despite the fact that they had an eight-day advantage, and were giving away free software," railed MTV Games general manager Scott Guthrie according to Gamasutra."At the end of the day, The Beatles: Rock Band clearly outperformed them, and were not done yet. We're anticipating a very successful holiday period."Guthrie goes on to express his surprise at Guitar Hero 5's use of Van Halen tracks - which are now free despite originally being planned as 'premium' downloads.

Oddworld classics set for PSN this week
Thursday, to be preciseVeteran game designer Lorne Lanning has revealed to the PlayStation blog that a number of classic Oddworld titles will very shortly be released on the PlayStation Network.Lanning tells us that Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe's Exodus will hit the PlayStation Store this Thursday, costing 9.99 USD each."We couldn't have been more thrilled when we learned that the PlayStation Network was willing to offer our classic Abe games to an entirely new generation of gamers," beams the game maker."Finally, gamers who never got the chance to meet and play him when he first came out on the PSone system, will now get that chance to meet the guy who graced many magazine covers and proved the unlikely hero that captured people's hearts."Munch's Odyssey and Stranger's Wrath could also be delivered in digital form in the future, by the sound of things.

NPD sees PS3 take September crown
But DS still leads overall The latest (and somewhat delayed) NPD figures are in from the US of A, revealing that - as predicted - the PS3 console was the system to beat during the month of September across the pond. The PS3 was the month's best selling console with sales of nearly 492,000, followed by the Wii with 463,000 - the Xbox 360 somewhat off the pace on just under 353,000.The Nintendo DS remained America's best selling game platform for the month overall with over 524,000 sales - although the month clearly belongs to Sony, who cut the price of the console and introduced the Slimline SKU during September. The PSP, on the other hand, could only muster a mediocre 190,000 sales - although it must be noted that this tally comes ahead of the PSP Go's arrival, which took place on October 1st. The PS2 was last with a still-respectable 146,000 console sales.More NPD news soon.
