FCC commissioners support open Internet rule
WASHINGTON/CHICAGO (Reuters) - U.S. communications regulators voted unanimously to support an open internet rule that would prevent telecom network operators from barring or blocking content based on the revenue it generated.

Brazil adds 1.5 mln mobile lines in September
(Telecompaper) The Brazilian mobile subscriber base grew to 166.1 million in September, up 0.96 percent from the previous month, according to the latest data published by market regulator Anatel. Brazil saw over 1.58 million net additions in September. around 82.21 percent of the country's total mobile customer base were prepaid users and the remaining 17.79 percent were postpaid subscribers. In the period January to September, the country added around 15.4 million mobile lines, representing the second best result in the same period since 2000. Vivo was still market leader in September, with a 29.4 percent market share. Claro Brasil ranks second with a flat market share versus August, at 25.45 percent, followed by TIM Brasil with 23.85 percent (23.83% in the previous month) and Oi with 20.93 percent (20.97% in August).

Nokia sues Apple for iPhone patent infringement
(Telecompaper) Nokia has filed a complaint against Apple with the Federal District Court in Delaware, alleging that Apple's iPhone infringes Nokia patents for GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN (WLAN) standards. The ten patents in suit relate to technologies fundamental to making devices which are compatible with one or more of the GSM, UMTS (3G WCDMA) and WLAN standards. The patents cover mobile/wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption and are infringed by all Apple iPhone models shipped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007.
