Icahn said that his attention was "focused on other matters" and that he did not have the time to concentrate on Yahoo's business. Icahn joined the Yahoo board in August
2008 after settling his proxy challenge to replace
the company's directors. Icahn had threatened to unseat Yahoo's board last year after Yahoo - under the direction of its then-chief executive Jerry Yang - rejected a USD 47.5 billion bid from Microsoft for the entire company. Under pressure, Yang, a company co-founder, decided to step down, and Carol Bartz replaced him early this year as CEO.

The auction was previously expected in December, but the government had been unable to reach an agreement with the
military on releasing spectrum for communication services. The memorandum from the Department of Telecom covers qualifications for bidding for 3G licences in the 2.1GHz band as well as radio frequencies in the 800MHz band and broadband wireless access in the 2.3GHz band. A call for applications for the licences will be issued on 8 December, applications will be due by 21 December, and the 3G tender will be held on 14 January. The 800 MHz and BWA tender will follow two days later. For 3G, the DoT said it will auction four blocks of 2x5MHz spectrum in most of the nation's 22 telecommunication service areas, with another block reserved for state operators BSNL and MTNL. Smile will pay ILS 6.5 billion cash, representing a 7.0 percent discount based on Bezeq's closing share price prior to the announcement on 22 October. The transaction still needs regulatory approvals, including from the Israeli Ministry of Communications, the Antitrust Commissioner and the Prime Minister. 012 Smile has agreed to sell its current telecommunications assets in order to obtain anti-trust approval, which proceeds will also be used to finance the transaction.
