Arc Rise Fantasia Hands-On Preview
You're reading a Tokyo Game Show 2008 preview, which we've broken into three sections to make it easy to sift through during this week of convention madness. Check out TGS.1UP.COM for all (meaning words, screens, and videos) of our coverage from the show. What's the game? First of all, let's clear this up right away: This isn't last year's DS strategy-RPG Luminous Arc. Or the upcoming Luminous Arc 2. And not only that, it isn't even related to Luminous Arc, despite also hailing from developer imageepoch. And if you haven't played Luminous Arc, lemme tell you that's a good thing, since it's pretty much Final Fantasy Tactics with all the fun sucked out. It's a shame Arc Rise Fantasia's unimaginative name might cause some confusion and unintentional dismissals, though, because the game actually features some reasonably prominent names on the development side, including veterans of Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Symphonia, and cult Japan-only Super Famicom fave Bahamut Lagoon. Check out TGS.1UP.COM for all (meaning words, screens, and videos) of our coverage from the show. What's the game about? In Again: Eye of Providence, FBI special agent Jonathan "J" Weaver is a man out for answers -- answers as to why he alone survived a series of connected murders that eradicated his family 18 years ago. But when a current-day investigation turns up clues that are identical to the killings that claimed his family, J looks to the past -- literally -- to unravel the mystery. Could it be that this most heinous chain of crimes is happening...again?

Check out TGS.1UP.COM for all (meaning words, screens, and videos) of our coverage from the show. What's the game about? Tecmo is daring to enter a realm that Japanese developers typically shy away from (the world of third-person shooters) with its newly announced PS3 exclusive, Quantum Theory. In one of those "a world rocked by cataclysmic destruction" situations, the "dark destroyer Syd endeavors to scale and raze the Living Tower" (an art nouveau-style spire that's alive with mystical energy), but along the way he "encounters the mysterious female warrior Fillena, who's also scaling the tower with an unknown agenda." Yeah, that's the kind of language the developers use when describing this game.

Wii Musicwas a big hit at E3 2008 for all of the wrong reasons. People scoffed at the goofy way players waved the Wii Remote around like an instrument and raged at the insinuation that this was a toy that was somehow superior to regular games. In the end, Wii Music wowed only a very few. To be fair, Nintendo barely explained what the game is, and its ear-bleeding jam session during its E3 press conference did more to increase the sale of ear plugs than it did to increase interest in Wii Music. After playing the real thing, though, the memories of that disastrous E3 presentation quickly fade away.Wii Music 'F-Zero' clipWhen you turn on Wii Music for the first time, it introduces you to the four different gestures you?ll use to play the 60-plus instruments available. When you get the hang of those, it then introduces you to the game's main draw: playing and improvising music. Forget what you know about music games -- Wii Music isn?t about nailing every note and being No. 1 on th

While everyone anticipated another glimpse of StarCraft 2 at last week's BlizzCon, we didn't expect to learn we'd only been witnessing a third of the game up until now. StarCraft 2's campaign is a totally different beast than its predecessor -- as we reported earlier , it'll be broken up into three separate games. However, each campaign will span about as many levels as the entire original game. Anthony: Man, that presentation was ridiculous. I can't believe StarCraft 2's a trilogy. But at least the campaign's large and diverse in each release.Tina: Yeah, but Blizzard's explanation for a trilogy's pretty convincing. The Terran campaign alone has so much to offer, and Blizzard's promising that each game will be a standalone product with 26 to 30 missions. That's three times larger than the original StarCraft!
