Big name releases push other titles into 2010
Pachter weighs into delay debacleIndustry soothsayer Michael Pachter has been wading into the release date debacle, noting the sheer number of games now pushed back into 2010, titles formerly earmarked to arrive this winter. In recent weeks dozens of titles have been delayed by various publishers, leaving the once bumper-looking festive line-up a lot thinner than in years gone by. Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter blames these slippages on the might of several, key games, which other firms simply don't want to compete with."This fall you have games like The Beatles: Rock Band, Tony Hawk: Ride and DJ Hero. Those are like buying two or three games, and that sucks a lot of money out of the cycle. I think the biggest problem you're going to see is that Q1 is now equally crowded, especially considering they're going to be relatively low-dollar months," Pachter explained on the early 2010 'crunch'."Think of something like Darksiders coming then, I think it's going to be hard for a Darksiders t

PS3 closes in on 200m game sales
23.8 million consoles now shifted, tooAccording to news in this morning, total sales of the PS3 console have now topped 23.8 million systems, that's the word from Kotaku, who have been peering into Sony's first-quarter results..While sales of the hardware close in on the 25 million mark, we hear that total PS3 software sales are also chasing down another landmark of their own, PSN and boxed releases nearing 200 million. The actual total presently stands at 189.7 million units, but with a barren summer spell now coming to an end, you wouldn't bet against the next milestone falling before the winter spree kicks off. These figures represent the number of units sold, not shipped, too. More soon.

Pandemic racer was culled by EA
The Next Big Thing... wasn'tPandemic Australia is long gone, and with the collapse of the development studio we can see what the studio was working on; a cartoon-style, multiplayer Wii racer. The now defunct title was apparently set to be called The Next Big Thing or No Limits Racing, and allowed people to use their Mii avatars as in-game racing drivers, or celebrity look-alikes.The game certainly looks entertaining, as you can see from the footage on Joystiq, although the publisher are dismissive of how far along this project really was."On any given day, there are a lot of great game ideas under consideration at EA... not all of them go all the way to market," offers word from the firm.Pandemic Australia were also said to be working on a delayed Dark Knight Batman game, before the division was closed.
