SHENZHEN, Apr 22, 2008 (SinoCast via COMTEX News Network) -- Latest statistics from a Taiwan-based information industry research firm indicate that Taiwan scored 6.91 million 3G mobile phone subscribers by the end of 2007, an increase of 16.5% from 2006. In a sharp contrast to 3G's fast penetration, the number of 2G mobile phone users declined 4.2% to 15.9 million. The research firm forecasts that the number of 3G subscribers in Taiwan will hit 10 million by the end of 2008, accounting for 40% of Taiwan's mobile communication market. The mobile phone penetration rate in Taiwan has reached 105.8% so far. All Taiwan mobile phone users sent 12,560 pieces of short messages in the fourth quarter of 2007, an increase of 26%, or 54 for each user on average. By far Taiwan has total 1.186 million mobile phone Internet users, representing an increase of 7.8%. Over 55% of mobile Internet subscribers have adopted 3G network. From [
