Obama`s SEC pick to testify before banking panel Jan. 15
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Senate Banking Committee chairman Christopher Dodd on Wednesday scheduled an oversight hearing for Jan. 15 to review President Elect Barack Obama's nominee to head the Securities and Exchange Commission, Mary Schapiro, and other key nominees. Dodd and other lawmakers are expected to scrutinize Schapiro's qualifications and question her about whether she plans to press for the combination of the SEC and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission. In addition to Schapiro, Daniel Tarullo who is designated to join the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System, is scheduled to testify before the committee. Christina Romer, who is designated to chair the Obama administration's Council of Economic Advisors and two other members of the advisory committee are also scheduled to appear before the panel.
