Asian markets mostly lower; airline stocks down in Tokyo
HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Asian markets were mostly lower early Thursday, with Japanese stocks led downward by airlines and pharmaceutical shares, although exporters and financials gained on a weakened yen and overnight gains on Wall Street. The Nikkei 225 Average fell 0.5% at 8,436.94 in early morning trade, and the broader Topix Index lost 0.6% to 813.22. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.4%, and New Zealand's NZX 50 gave up 0.5%, while South Korea's Kospi slipped 0.2%, after rising in the previous four sessions.Market Pulse Stories are Rapid-fire, short news bursts on stocks and markets as they move.
