Japan`s core inflation flat in Feb., higher than expected
LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Japan's core Consumer Price Index in February was flat compared to the year-earlier period, also matching January's level, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said Friday. The result was slightly higher than the 0.1% decline expected by analysts, according to a poll from Dow Jones Newswires and Nikkei. But many analysts still expect the CPI to dive into negative territory in the near term, given reduced domestic and overseas demand, as well as lower commodity prices, Dow Jones reported. The core CPI excludes volatile items such as food. Japan's overall CPI for February was down 0.1% on year and down 0.3% on month.Market Pulse Stories are Rapid-fire, short news bursts on stocks and markets as they move. Exelon says NRG board expansion won`t accelerate debt
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Exelon Corp. said late Thursday its proposal to expand the board of directors at NRG Energy Inc. won't cause the acceleration of NRG's debt. NRG, which has been dealing with a $5 billion takeover bid from Exelon, had earlier argued that Exelon's proposal to expand its board could accelerate roughly $8 billion in outstanding debt under current terms. But in a letter, Exelon chief executive John Rowe wrote that the nominees Exelon is proposing would constitute 50% of the board, and wouldn't signify a change in control.Market Pulse Stories are Rapid-fire, short news bursts on stocks and markets as they move.
