Dubai World sets new plan to save Las Vegas CityCenter--WSJ
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Dubai World, MGM Mirage's partner in the $8.6 billion Las Vegas CityCenter development, has proposed the troubled project's investors agree to fund it through completion, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday. Details of the plan were not immediately available, but according to people familiar with it, it calls for Dubai World, MGM Mirage and bank lenders to commit to providing the estimated $3 billion needed to finish the project. Such a move could result in banks dropping an earlier agreement to back a $1.8 billion emergency loan only if MGM Mirage and Dubai World increased their own cash contributions to the massive 67-acre hotel, condominium, shopping mall and casino project. V V: Marx - Prophet of capitalism
About fifteen years ago, after the collapse of communism in east Europe, there appeared a general impression that Marx was now irrelevant: he was dead, and buried for ever under the rubble of the Berlin Wall. No one need read him again. What we are witnessing, Francis Fukuyama proclaimed at the end of the Cold War, is not just the passing of a particular period of post-war history, but the end of history as such: that is, the end point of mankinds ideological evolution. But history soon returned with a vengeance. First in August 1998, the economic meltdown in Russia, currency collapse in Asia and market panic around the world that made Londons Financial Times wonder if we had moved from the triumph of global capitalism to its crisis in barely a decade. The article was headlined, Das Kapital Revisited.

Eliot Spitzer: No Need For New Regulatory Bodies
A year ago, former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned from office after he was outed for using a call girl service. Now he's writing columns about the kinds of abuses he used to prosecute on Wall Street as attorney general. Spitzer tells NPR's Robert Siegel he doesn't see as great a need for new regulatory bodies — just more determination from the old ones.
