Pradip Baijal: A steel famine on the horizon
The steel secretary to the Government of India is on record as saying, in a press conference in Kolkata in 2007, that India would reach a capacity of 124 million tonnes by 2012 excluding POSCO and Mittal up from an earlier projection of 80 million tonnes. The break-up of the capacity addition was to be 26 million tonnes from greenfield plants and 38 million tonnes from brownfield plants.
