IT Services: A quiet quarter
With the environment still challenging, IT firms are likely to turn in a muted set of results for the June 2009 quarter; volumes are expected to come down sequentially with no uptick in pricing. The accompanying commentary will almost certainly be cautious given that the order pipeline is more or less flat, customers are taking their time to close deals and also because clients continue to expect further cuts in pricing.

Twitter Dominates CMO Social Network Plans
It's here, there and everywhere. The popularity of social networking is climbing by the week with virtually every age bracket, right up to seniors. Today 110 million Americans, or 60% of the online population, use social networks, according to a new study by Anderson Analytics. That number is conservative, because instead of counting unique users or everyone who has an account, the Anderson study counted only people who have used a social network at least once in the past month. According to Anderson, the average social networker goes to social sites five days a week and checks in about four times a day for a total of an hour each day. Nine-percent stay logged in all day and are constantly checking out what's new. Social networkers' feelings about brands online are more fairly positive. Some 52% of social networkers had friended or become a fan of at least one brand. When asked by Anderson if they would like more communications from brands, 45% were neutral, while 20% said yes and 3

Bespoke`s Commodity Snapshot (7/8/09)
Hickey and Walters (Bespoke) submit: Below we highlight our trading range charts of ten major commodities. The green shading represents between two standard deviations above and below the commodity's 50-day moving average, and a move above or below this green shading is considered overbought or oversold. On the energy front, oil and natural gas have declined quite a bit over the last week. Oil remains in the center of its trading range, however, while most other commodities are now in oversold territory. Gold, silver and platinum have all pulled back sharply since early June, while corn, wheat, and coffee have fallen off a cliff. The one commodity that has bucked the overall downtrend is orange juice. It was in oversold territory just a couple of weeks ago, but it has rallied nicely in recent days.Complete Story »
