Qatar Telecom extends rebound
Qatari investors cheered positive statements of US Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke on the world economy being in a recovery mood and sent the Qatar Exchange's DMS20-index 4.12% higher to 6,842.09 points. Shares of Qatar Telecom ended 4.12% higher at QR143.90 and were only topped by Al-Khaleej Insurance (up 4.55% to QR30.20). Real estate firm Barwa (gaining 3.21%, to QR32.70) told the exchange authority that it has raised its stake in Al Imtiaz, a Kuwait-based Investment Company, to 25%. Two New York-based lawyers have left Clifford Chance to join Dechert . Finance partners Stuart Strauss and Richard Horowitz are joining Dechert's financial services group.

Danieli wins Saudi steel deal
Saudi-based Al-Rajhi Steel has awarded Italian foundry equipment maker Danieli an SR800m ($213.3m) contract to build a steel plant in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Reuters has reported. Under the agreement, Danieli will build a one million tonne per year steel rebar plant. It will take 22 months to build and start production in November 2011.

Nakheel sells Mirvac stake
Dubai-based developer Nakheel has reportedly agreed to sell all of its 172 million shares in Australian real estate company Mirvac Group for A$206.4m ($171m). According to a Bloomberg report, Deutsche Bank has managed the sale of the stock at A$1.20 a share.

Opel fate still unknown
The fate of General Motors German brand Opel is still unknown, after the company?s board of directors declined to name Canada's Magna International as the winning bidder for the division, Reuters has reported. Instead, GM directors want to see what financing is available from the German government, in particular to back a rival bid by Brussels-based financial investor RHJ International, two sources familiar with the situation have said. A GM spokeswoman admitted that ?no decision was taken? at the board meeting in its discussions on Opel.
