Getting to know the fun-loving Browns
There's nothing subtle about Tyler Perry and his black-centric movies. The farce is in-your-face, the melodrama has more soap than a Laundromat, and the messages - drugs are bad, school is good, single moms are the heroes of our time - come mounted on billboards.

Whatever Happened to . Madchen Amick?
Remember Madchen Amick? The girl with the strange first name who was one of the hot girls on David Lynch’s TV show Twin Peaks? (She played Shelly Johnson, in case you don’t remember.) When Disney changed its spots
The only thing cuter than a puppy is a bunch of puppies, and there are plenty in Walt Disney's 101 Dalmatians, now a two-disc DVD release. Training-film spoof takes a shot at the Iraq war
Lurching into town like the ghost of midnight movies past, 'Military Intelligence and You!' is nothing if not cheeky. Writer-director Dale Kutzera has lovingly crafted an entire fake World War II training film with the intent of skewering attitudes surrounding the Iraq war, and the result is (or wants to be) a remixed 'Reefer Madness' for our age of mass ...

Weekend Forecast: 3/20/08
As March Madness and Easter are all the focus this weekend, three wide release movies take their shot at drawing audiences to theaters. It's a tough weekend to debut a film, but a couple of studios will be hoping that families might come to a consensus that a nice movie is a lovely way to spend some together time.

Lots of ugliness, little loveliness in a small town
The new David Gordon Green movie begins the same way his first movies have: promisingly. In the characteristically beguiling opening sequence, a small-town school marching band rehearses a half-hearted version of Peter Gabriel's 'Sledgehammer' on a football field. It's messy, but it's pretty, with the camera zooming in on the underwhelmed music teacher ('Do you have a sledgehammer in your ...
