Event #3 of the WSOP, the $1,500 buy-in Pot Limit Hold'em, got underway in the cavernous Amazon Room with a field of 657 players at 70 tables and by day's end racked up a total field of 714, fewer than last year's field of 781...

There was a pair of awards presentations going on Day 3 of the 2008 WSOP. The more high profile one was the MTV movie awards. Several miles away from this train wreck, a legitimate award was being handed out. Nenad Medic was the first person of the season to be awarded a World Series of Poker bracelet. Even though PokerStars team member Kathy Liebert to make the whole thing interesting showed some strength and managed to finish fourth after being shortstacked, Nenad eventually wound up heads-up against Andy Bloch and eventually eliminated him to take the first victory of the World Series of Poker.

Today two events kick off in the Rio's Amazon Room, where all the poker players are chasing their dreams as well as their straights and flushes. The first bracelet has been awarded to Nenad Medic, for the $10k Pot Limit Holdem Championship event. While we did not predict a win for Medic, we did predict Andy Bloch would go far - he took second. The events for today include a rebuy and an Omaha event, both the first of their kind for the 39th annual World Series of Poker. event 6 - $1,500 Omaha High-Low Split 8 or Better, will bring the Omaha fans out of the woodwork.

The winner of the 2008 Asian Poker Tour is one David Saab. Saab, an Australian, took on over 300 players to win the event, culminating a six day run on Sunday at the Dusit Thani Manila Hotel in Makati City. South Korea's Chris Roh gave him a run for his money during heads up play, but Saab, 35, emerged as the final winner...

With the World Series of Poker for 2008 underway some of the bigger names in the business have found early success, going deep in the $10k Pot Limit Holdem event. In addition to cashing two of them found a boost to their careers, likely as a result of their success. Kathy Liebert signed with PokerStars as a new poker pro, and Patrik Antonius did the same with Full Tilt Poker...

They've finally made the money in the $1,500 event after almost an hour of hand for hand play (if you've ever played hand for hand in a live tournament, it is absolute torture). The biggest difference between this event and the $10,000 PLHE event? People really are enthused and happy to make the money. A huge round of applause went up as it was announced. They put the players on break and at least ½ of the exiting participants dutifully got on the telephone to tell the good news to someone. I might joke around but this is the enthusiasm I love to see... people playing the game and being genuinely happy at doing well. read more in pokerworks.com
