In a major announcement on June 1st, Finnish poker superstar Patrik Antonius joined Full Tilt poker's team of pro players. My first course of action was to find Daniel Negreanu as I knew he would not disappoint. He didn't. First hand, he made it 500 to go and got a call from Kevin O'Connell. Flop came 10-7-5 and Negreanu went all in. O'Connell called. Negreanu had A-4 and O'Connell had Q-10. Negreanu lost the hand, rebought, and proceeded to double up the next hand when he made it 1000 to go, an opponent moved all in, and he called. Negreanu's 10-8 suited bested his opponent's A-4 when he hit a flush. 'You all wanna play a hand or two?' Negreanu jokes as he limps in the next hand. Doyles Room is sponsoring Shannon Elizabeth in the World Series of poker this year. That is at least $10,000 that she won't be spending at this year's WSOP. To be fair, she isn't wearing the Brunson logo simply because she looks good in a skirt. Shannon got that sponsorship because she is a good player who just happens to look really good in a skirt. This is generally a good combination to get the cameras' attention, and let's face it, this is all about getting Doyle's logo on television.

This is a prime example of what the majority of the World Series of poker days are like. The first day was soft day with only one event, and a $10k championship tournament at that; it was guaranteed to be a relatively short and easy-to-follow lead-up to the madness. As part of the grand opening ceremony on Day 1 of the 2008 World Series of poker, Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack announced to all in attendance that all WSOP bracelet holders would receive special treatment from Harrah's in the form of Diamond status. Event #4 of the 2008 World Series of poker drew a star-studded field of 332 players, including Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Greg Raymer and Event #1 winner Nenad Medic, trying to become the first double bracelet winner of 2008...

There was a pair of awards presentations going on Day 3 of the 2008 WSOP. The more high profile one was the MTV movie awards. Several miles away from this train wreck, a legitimate award was being handed out. Nenad Medic was the first person of the season to be awarded a World Series of poker bracelet. Even though PokerStars team member Kathy Liebert to make the whole thing interesting showed some strength and managed to finish fourth after being shortstacked, Nenad eventually wound up heads-up against Andy Bloch and eventually eliminated him to take the first victory of the World Series of poker.

Sometimes it is appropriate to call down a hand with something like King High. Sometimes it is not. During the Aussie Millions poker pro Erik Seidel faced one of those circumstances at the final table.
