In fact Gomes was firmly ensconced in fourth place when the day started, but these two would eventually meet at the final table. Of course before that could happen, seven other players would have to find their way to the rail, and in most tournaments, nobody is really anxious to be relieved of their place at the final table. Online poker room PokerStars yanked the $1.2 million payoff to online poker player Void, real name Natalie Teltscher, because a third part helped her play her hands, which is against tournament rules. Now Teltscher has file a law suit against PokerStars in order to reclaim her tourney winnings. In what is being called a freak accident a 20 year old poker player, participating in a prop bet that had him hurtling down a hotel hallway clad in only socks and underwear, crashed through a fifth floor window and fell 40 feet to his death. Mark Day had just come back to the hotel after busting out of a poker game when he was dared to make the dash. I stood about twenty feet away from the action when Scotty Nguyen busted out of the 2007 World Series of poker Main Event. Deep down, I was rooting for Scotty Nguyen. I think we all were. When Nguyen finished in 11th place...

On my way out of the Rio the other night, I saw Scotty Nguyen sitting in front of the valet stand, a fan blowing his hair in all directions. Scotty was talking with the valets as if they were long time friends of his; kicked back, telling them how in the H.O.R.S.E. tournament all it took was one or two bad hands and you were out. Since only the average player can't afford such a buy-in, or find a backer, only 148 players entered, with the top 16 places paid.
