Ryan Hughes is the first person in WSOP history to have a Stud hi/lo bracelet for each wrist. To accomplish this feat he had to overcome a Day 2 mini-disaster that put a hurt on his stack just before the end of play, and a final day field where he was in 9th place out of the remaining 13 players. Even though starting towards the back of the pack, he was the lead dog by the time the final table rolled around. After having a bit of a stumble, and temporarily losing his lead to Alessio Isaia, Ryan reasserted his dominance by making his first 'final table' victim a name synonymous with good, sound poker: David Sklansky.

It takes a special type of person to pay a $50,000 buy in in order to test their poker skills in one of the toughest tournament formats in existence. The word most folks would be looking for when describing this type of 'special' person, is crazy. Some people could try to make that word stick when describing Scotty Nguyen, but he has five WSOP bracelets draped around his wrists that testify to the fact that this guy knows exactly what he is doing. Scotty spent the last five days playing his heart out in an effort to win what is arguably the toughest of all the WSOP events.

I prefer playing No Limit deep stacks long structured poker tournaments as it gives me a considerable advantage over most of my opponents. I tend to be a very patient person by nature and rarely do I get riled up over much of anything. Therefore tournaments that lend themselves to long structures suit me perfectly. This allows me to maximize and leverage poker strategy and the impatience of most of my opponents that just can’t stand not being in action for long.read more

The 39th annual World Series of poker continues to offer up firsts this year in Las Vegas. For the first time a single poker player has won two gold bracelets in the Seven-Card Stud High-Low Split event. The winner of this year's $1,500 buy in Seven-Card Stud High-Low Split event is Ryan Hughes...

On June 26th-28th the $1,500 buy-in Seven-Card Stud High-Low Split championship, Event #47 attracted 544 entries. The top 56 finishers collected a share of the $742,560 prize pool. This was the second and last Seven-Card Stud High-Low Split event on the 2008 WSOP schedule. The World Series of poker for this year has had its share of exciting moments, including the finish of Event 48, the $2,000 buy in No Limit Holdem event. More than 2,300 players paid their buy in to create a prize pool of $4.2 million.
