India's batting wizard Sachin Tendulkar, who is the world record run scorer in the One-Day International (ODI) format of the game - amassing 16,684 runs in 425 innings, at an average of 44.37 - said his biggest dream was to play for India in the 2011 World Cup and win the prestigious trophy for the nation.

Award-winning classical guitarist Peter Fletcher will perform at St. Matthias Episcopal Church (1 Dundee Street in Asheville, NC), on July 26th at 3PM. The program will feature selections from Fletcher's 2008 CD release on Tower Hill Records, Music of the Baroque.

The producers of HAIR announced today that the new Broadway production, which opened March 31st to critical (and audience) acclaim, has once again set a house record at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street). For the week of June 8 - 14, the week after winning the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, HAIR's box office gross was $963,233, the highest for any eight-show week at the 1,400 seat theater, which opened in 1924 (and besting its own house record of 5/22 -- $934,229).

Remember the impending demise of Broadway? Well, you might want to hold off writing the obit. Between last fall's market meltdown and the multiple show closings in January, many predicted an end to Broadway as we know it. Empty theaters. No more lavish productions. Empty seats in operating theaters. Truth is, it didn't happen. The Broadway League released its annual review of statistics for the 'official' Broadway year, which ended May 24. According to League Executive Director Charlotte St. Martin (photo above), attendance was down about 1 percent, ticket sales were up a little more than half a percent (to $943 million) and a record number of new shows opened. Given the economy, that's got to be recorded as win. And at least someone must be thinking there's a future on stage. Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark opens in 2010 at a reported cost of more than $40 million, which will make it the most expensive Broadway production ever mounted.
