How are News International and its top executives likely to emerge from the phone-hacking scandal? As soon as the Guardian revealed on Wednesday night how Rupert Murdoch's News Group, owners of the News of the World, secretly paid more than £1m to victims of phone hacking by its journalists, the story went to the top of the BBC's bulletins and website. Andrew Neil, former editor of the Sunday Times, another Murdoch paper, called it the most important media story in many years. The former deputy prime minister had had his mobile hacked into; a senior adviser to the man everybody expects to be the next PM was allegedly implicated in systemic criminal activity; MPs had been misled; the police and courts were accused of conniving in a cover-up; and press regulation had been found wanting. Heroes star Hayden Panettiere is the latest actress to get naked in the movie I Love You, Beth Cooper. Did she just make a terrible career move, or will it make her more famous than ever? Some actresses take it all off very early in their careers just to get a foot in the door, some pose nude once they've already become famous (such as Farrah Fawcett), and some have appeared nude many times throughout their career, never making a big deal out of it. TV shows such as Nip/Tuck and True Blood regularly feature nude scenes (some of these scenes are on the verge of soft porn). Each decade brings with it a different perspective on the subject, and everyone has his or her own opinion. Well, Artie Lange got into trouble with drugs and/or alcohol last week. The Howard Stern Show must be on vacation. The comedian and Howard Stern Show sidekick was charged with driving under the influence following a minor traffic accident on Friday. I wouldn't normally report on stuff like this, but it seems like Lange is getting into trouble every time the Stern show goes on break. When the SIRIUS radio show went on break last summer, Lange checked into rehab. This latest skirmish is especially troubling because it comes on the heels of months of proclaimed sobriety from Lange, who was boasting shortly before Stern went on a two-week break that he hadn't touched a drink or drug in months. Either he was lying or had another relapse. Either way, his antics have gotten really, really old. A Chicago-based firm has announced it will be offering tours around the King of Pop's childhood hometown of Gary, Indiana. Costing $55 for adults and $45 for children, JWR Tours advertises on their Web site that their tour will include Roosevelt High School where some of the Jackson family reportedly attended, the steel mill where Joe Jackson worked, the corner store where the family bought groceries, and the former nightclub where the music legend made his big debut in 1966. The tour from "where it all began" starts at noon on Saturday, July 25 and goes for three and a half hours.
