Kanye West admitted to Jay Leno Monday night what the rest of America figured out 24 hours earlier: He screwed up big-time.

I was not a huge fan of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, so my expectations weren?t high for The Jay Leno Show. But as I?ve said before, Leno runs a tight ship, and for those who enjoy a more ?Wal-Mart? approach to comedy, The Jay Leno Show certainly won?t disappoint. What struck me from the outset was the wonderful opening theme from Kevin Eubanks and the new Primetime Band. Very old school, very Saturday Night Live from the 1970s. Classic NBC. But as soon as Leno walked onto his new set ? a beautiful set, by the way ? it felt like any episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Honestly, that was disappointing. Not eight minutes into the show and I couldn?t tell the difference between Leno and any Tonight Show from September 2008, 2007 or even 2006. Leno?s monologue was a solid set. He opened by promising that this was the real show and not just another NBC promo. But my favorite joke was his reference to the U.S. government?s recent Cash for Clunkers rebate program. ?I made $5 billion
