The mighty axe is getting warmed up over at CBS and it looks as though Numb3rs may be their first victim this season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has decided to cut the episode order for their long-running procedural drama Numb3rs from 22 to 16. It's important to note that the network has not officially canceled the series, but fans should prepare themselves for the worst-case scenario. Are vampires, aliens and psychics taking over primetime? Are we finally starting to show signs of boredom with crime dramas? With the debut of its 14th season, The Bachelor will join other network reality shows that are broadcast in high definition. Jillian Harris reject Jake Pavelka's search for love starts Jan. 4. The network said in a press release that the show 'will be broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format, with stereo sound.' It's almost criminal that The Amazing Race is still broadcast in standard definition while Chris Harrison and the roses will be in high definition. Jake Pavelka was announced as the new "Bachelor" on an episode of "Dancing with the Stars." Now ET can confirm the start date for the new season of "The Bachelor." The 31-year-old commercial pilot will get a second chance at love when the hit romance reality series premieres Monday, January 4, 2010 at 8 p.m. on ABC. Jake will meet the 25 bachelorettes who hope to win his heart when "The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love" is broadcast in high definition for the first time.

Billy Bell, who was sidelined from So You Think You Can Dance due to a mysterious, potentially deadly illness, will return to the competition next season, although not in the top 20. Instead, Nigel Lythgoe explained last night that the show's producers and Fox 'have agreed that Billy Bell can join the competition at the top 100 in Vegas next season, and they've also agreed that Brandon can re-apply for this show. I think that's very fair.' Note that his replacement, Brandon Dumlao, who didn't make the top 20 but was subbed in only to be immediately eliminated, will only be allowed to audition again from the very start. Ouch. TV Ratings: Sci-fi show tops night over 'NCIS' franchise -- "V" got off to an out-of-this-world start Tuesday night for ABC and put the Alphabet just a fraction behind CBS in the demo race. Eye edged out a win with new episodes of its "NCIS" franchise and freshman drama "The Good Wife." But execs at ABC are all smiles as sci-fi skein "V" drew a 5.0 rating and 13 share, with 13.9 million viewers tuning in, making it the highest-rated series debut of the new season. Reviews for the Warner Bros. show were stellar and audiences clearly checked in at 8 o'clock to see what the hype was all about. "V" marked ABC's strongest performance in the time period among 18-49 in three years and the highest rating for a Alphabet drama in the time period since "Lost" in 2004.

For the second time this season, Bravo is depriving us of a new episode of Top Chef, but instead of a repeat, is airing a one-off special called 'All Stars Dinner.' Yes, it's a reunion, with Fabio Viviani hosting 'an all-star get-together complete with a challenge,' Bravo says. The chefs will also 'rehash their favorite moments on the series,' which means filler by way of clips. Bravo also promises confrontations between Marcel and Fabio, and Carla and Casey.
