The ubiquitin-like molecule interferon-stimulated gene 15 as a potential prognostic marker in human breast cancerIntroductionISG15 is an ubiquitin-like molecule that is strongly upregulated by type I interferons as a primary response to diverse microbial and cellular stress stimuli. However, alterations in the ISG15 signalling pathway have also been found in several human tumour entities. In the current study, we present for the first time a systematic characterisation of ISG15 expression in human breast cancer and normal breast tissue both at the mRNA and the protein level. Methods:Using semiquantitative realtime PCR, cDNA dot blot hybridisation and immunohistochemistry we systematically analysed ISG15 expression in human invasive breast carcinomas (n=910) and normal breast tissues (n=135). ISG15 protein expression was analysed in two independent cohorts on tissue microarrays (TMAs), an initial evaluation set, consisting of 179 breast carcinomas and 51 normal breast tissues, and a second large validation set, consisting of 646 breast carcinomas and 10 normal breast tissues. Mitochondrial Cholesterol Makes Response To Chemotherapy Difficult In Hepatic CancerCancer is a disease characterized by important metabolic alterations. Not only do these adaptative changes give higher proliferative capacity to cancer cells, but they also contribute to higher resistance to chemotherapeutic agents. The research group led by Dr. Medicalnewstoday.com Tuesday, July 15, 2008
Cellular Decision On The ComputerScientists of the Division of Theoretical Bioinformatics at the German cancer Research Center (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, DKFZ) in Heidelberg have simulated on the computer how cells decide whether or not to migrate. Using their results, the researchers were able to predict the molecular targets within a cell that have to be hit so that its behavior changes in a particular direction. This method may help to develop new treatments against cancer metastasis. Medicalnewstoday.com Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Link Discovered Between DNA Palindromes And DiseaseStudy results could provide clue to origin of genome instability leading to cancers In the past 10 years, researchers in genome stability have observed that many kinds of cancers are associated with areas where human chromosomes break. More recently, scientists have discovered that slow or altered replication causes chromosomal breaking. Medicalnewstoday.com Tuesday, July 15, 2008
