Smoking a Danger to Pets By now, youa ve heard about the dangers of second hand smoke to humans; but what about your dog or cat? Dr. MedicineNetEffects of mobile phone radiofrequency on the structure and function of the normal human hemoglobin. Authors: Mousavy SJ, Riazi GH, Kamarei M, Aliakbarian H, Sattarahmady N, Sharifizadeh A, Safarian S, Ahmad F, Moosavi-Movahedi AA Widespread use of mobile phones has increased the human exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs). It is required to investigate the effect of EMFs on the biological systems. In this paper the effect of mobile phone RF (910MHz and 940 MHz) on structure and function of HbA was investigated. Oxygen affinity was measured by sodium dithionite with UV-vis spectrophotometer. Structural changes were studied by circular dichroism and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results indicated that mobile phone EMFs altered oxygen affinity and tertiary structure of HbA. Furthermore, the decrease of oxygen affinity of HbA corresponded to the EMFs intensity and time of exposure.... Med WormObama set to lift stem-cell ban WASHINGTON - President Obama is planning to sign an executive order Monday rolling back restrictions on federal funding of human embryonic stem-cell research, according to sources close to the issue. PhillyYour sweat carries Animals facing threats warn members of their own species by releasing chemicals, prompting them to take appropriate evasive action. Rice University psychologist Denise Chen suggests a similar phenomenon also occurs in humans. She studied whether the smell of fear facilitates humans' other stronger senses. bignewsnetwork.comObama Will Lift Restrictions on Funding for Embryonic Stem Cell Research President Obama's decision to lift restrictions on federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research, scheduled to be announced Monday, is expected to provide a major boost to one of the most promising but controversial fields of biomedical research in generations. The Washington PostBreakthrough Produces Parkinson`s Patient-Specific Stem Cells Free Of Harmful Reprogramming Genes FINDINGS: Deploying a method that removes potentially cancer-causing genes, Whitehead Institute researchers have 'reprogrammed' human skin cells from Parkinson's disease patients into an embryonic-stem-cell-like state. Whitehead scientists then used these so-called induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells to create dopamine-producing neurons, the cell type that degenerates in Parkinson's disease patients.
