Skeletal effects of whole-body vibration in adult and aged mice
Low-amplitude, whole-body vibration (WBV) may be anabolic for bone. Animal studies of WBV have not evaluated skeletal effects in aged animals. We exposed 75 male BALB/c mice (7 month/young-adult; 22 month/aged) to 5 weeks of daily WBV (15 min/day, 5 day/wk; 90 Hz sine wave) at acceleration amplitudes of 0 (sham), 0.3, or 1.0 g. Whole-body bone mineral content (BMC) increased with time in 7 month (p MedWorm Message: Get the very latest Swine Flu news via the MedWorm Swine Flu RSS news feed - updated hourly from thousands of authoritative health and news sources.

Human Population Expanded During Late Stone Age, Genetic Evidence Shows
Genetic evidence is revealing that human populations began to expand in size in Africa during the Late Stone Age approximately 40,000 years ago. Scientists have found that sub-Saharan populations increased in size well before the development of agriculture. This research supports the hypothesis that population growth played a significant role in the evolution of human cultures in the Late Pleistocene.

Guest Editorial: Exercise & exercise testing in health and in disease: what we know and what we need to know
Exercise is an important aspect of the growth and general well being of children. The impact of reduced exercise ability may have significant short and long term consequences. In the short term, a negative feedback loop can be created where reduced exercise capacity leads to reduced habitual activity and participation in sport, further reducing exercise capacity. This may impact on the child's general health and well being, as well as self esteem. The impact of reduced exercise ability may be significant in the long term for both the individual (such as increased risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and obesity) as well as for the community (such as increased health care costs and proportionally reduced health care access).
