High-sugar diet increases men`s blood pressure; gout drug protective

As the nation engages in a heated debate over health care, it's useful to remind ourselves that nothing harms Americans' health more than tobacco -- the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. But tobacco's lethal grip can be weakened, as two new developments attest. First, two large studies find independently that communities that take strong steps to restrict secondhand smoke are handsomely rewarded with a large drop in heart attacks. . . . Meanwhile, starting yesterday, cigarette manufacturers and retailers are prohibited from making or selling cigarettes flavored to taste like candy, spices or fruit under the federal Tobacco Control Act passed in June. . . .
