Google, Microsoft Rule Out TV, Newspaper Purchases Newspaper companies have been in trouble for some time now, and due to the recession, even some big media corporations are encountering problems. Still, it doesn't look as if either Google or Microsoft is going to leap at the chance to make any acquisitions, as execs recently spoke out against the idea of the tech giants entering these fields. Kevin YenKevin Yen, YouTube's director of strategic partnerships, told Georg Szalai, "Those are very different businesses from what Google is." He then dismissed the idea of adapting, continuing, "We're not good at content. . . . We create platforms that allow other people to succeed."So there's one seemingly closed door. Yen could get overruled by Eric Schmidt or a few other people, of course, but there's no reason to believe a strategic partnerships boss would be out of the loop on this issue. As for Microsoft's take, Steve Ballmer himself shot down the possibility of buyouts there. That is, however, not the most important thing when it comes to app-like services and sites like Facebook, and a lot of users dislike the new design.A new Facebook application, called New Layout Vote, lets you vote on the new design.
